A hearing on a lawsuit against McKeesport Area School District filed by 11 high school students was continued Monday by a federal judge.
The students claim the district and Superintendent Dr. Mark Holtzman denied them permission to form a club called the McKeesport Black Student Union, which according to a proposed charter emailed to Holtzman in January, “would allow students of all races to rejoice in black culture, lifestyle, history and academic needs of black and brown students attending McKeesport Area High School.”
On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge Marilyn J. Horan issued an order stating that the U.S. Western District of Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) Court has been notified that the school district and the students “are working toward resolution.”
The hearing is continued until further order of the court, according to the order by Horan.
