Second annual BVA Derby Day planned
For the Mon Valley Independent
Old and new activities will be part of BVA Derby Day 2019. The event will be held May 4 at Amulet Farms in conjunction with the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby.
“The goal is to make this year’s event bigger and better than last year,” said Tom Svrcek, owner of the Rostraver Township harness racing facility and CSC Insurance Options, official sponsor of the fundraiser. “This is an opportunity for Mon Valley residents to socialize and have fun in a unique way, all for a great cause.”
The inaugural BVA Derby Day last May attracted more than 500 people and netted $38,000 for the nonprofit organization dedicated to providing enhanced educational opportunities to school district staff and students.
The Derby Hat Contest that proved to be a colorful, entertaining hit last year will be returning with a few twists in the spirit of the fashion-conscious crowd that turns out for the race at Churchill Downs, which will be televised live on a Jumbo-Tron at Amulet Farms.
