Prescription meds accepted at National Drug Take Back Day

Area residents in municipalities dealing with drug problems can do their part to dispose of prescription medication today during the 17th annual National Drug Take Back Day.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Days are held twice annually by the Drug Enforcement Agency, but many area pharmacies and police department collect unwanted or unused prescription medication all year. Since Pennsylvania began participating in the program in 2014, more than 537,000 pounds of prescription medication have been destroyed.
There are more than 800 take-back boxes throughout 67 counties in the state, many of them in the Mon Valley.
Last year, the DEA and more than 5,800 sites collecting more than 900,000 pounds of unused medication.
