Fashion will be important part of BVA Derby Day 2019

Saturday’s BVA Derby Day 2019 at Amulet Farm in Rostraver promises to be as much about fashion as the party atmosphere coinciding with the world-famous Kentucky Derby.
Last year, sponsors anticipated 50 entries for the Derby Day Hat Contest, but 118 women registered. They wore colorful feathered, flowered and big-brimmed hats to create a level of excitement to rival the horse racing.
As a result, Nina Simon, who chairs the contest, said several new twists will be added, including an invitation for more men to get decked out in tropical spring outfits and to wear a bow tie, fedora or a bowler hat.
“Women, as well as a surprising number of men, dressed up in the spirit of the festivities at Churchill Downs to make last year’s BVA Derby Day such fun and a great social event,” said Simon, the owner-operator of Snowball’s Hair and Tanning Salon. “We wished we could have given a prize to everyone.”
