The Charleroi Area School District will soon make an investment in safety involving more than a half-million dollars.
The district announced Thursday that it was awarded a competitive grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency totaling $521,498.
District resident Terry Planton, business manager Crystal Zahand and the Charleroi Area administrative team collaborated to apply for a two-part grant last fall.
Charleroi was awarded $25,000 in November that was used to buy four fixed metal detectors that will be used at the entrances to the middle/high and elementary center buildings, along with hand-held scanners and two mobile metal detectors, which are collapsible, to use at sporting events and extracurricular activities on campus.
