U.S. Steel announced Thursday it will invest more than $1 billion to create two state-of-the-art facilities at its Mon Valley Works.
Company leaders say the investment will secure “good-paying” advanced manufacturing jobs for decades to come for current and future members of the United Steelworkers Union and will also enable the Mon Valley Works to produce “the highest quality steel in the world” while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution.
Mon Valley Works is made up of the Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock, Clairton Coke Works and the Irvin Works in West Mifflin.
A new sustainable “endless casting and rolling facility” costing more than $900 million will be located at Edgar Thomson. It will be the first of its kind in the nation, and one of only a handful of similar facilities worldwide.
