Volunteers are the heart of SPHS Aging Services.
The first of three dinners to honor them was held Friday at the Monongahela Senior Center, recognizing volunteers from Mon City, the Donora center and a satellite center in Finleyville.
Longtime volunteer Mary Ann Wentz started volunteering in Donora after her retirement “for something to do” and has fallen in love with those she is able to help and the friends she has made along the way.
“It’s a good program,” Wentz said. “We don’t only get to help people, but we have all become buddies and friends.”
Her friend and fellow Donora volunteer, Mary Andras Smith, agreed.
“We are a smaller center, but we are a little family, a community, where you can really feel like you belong,” Smith said. “And it keeps you young.”
