McKeesport voters will have a choice in Tuesday’s primary of whether they would like to see new faces on the council.
Six Democrats are vying for four McKeesport council seats that each hold a four-year-term. Incumbents Luethel Nesbit, Richard Dellapenna, Keith Soles and Tim Brown are seeking re-election. Opposing them in the primary are newcomers Jesse Henderson Jr. and Pearly Mae Herriott Hudson.
All the incumbents said they would like to hold their seats to push for more “Mc-Keesport Rising” projects to be completed.
“McKeesport Rising” is the city’s title for a $2.5 million item in the city’s budget that is set aside for capital improvements, such as demolition of blighted or unsafe properties, paving of city streets and preserving neighborhoods, cultural entities and properties that are at risk of falling into disrepair. Funds came from last year’s sale of the Municipal Authority of McKeesport to Pennsylvania American Water Co. for $159 million.
