McKeesport Art Group hosts annual show
By Jim BUSCH
Renziehausen Park’s Jacob Wohl Pavilion was recently transformed into a showcase of the creativity of local Mon Valley artists.
The pavilion was the site of the McKeesport Art Group’s 61st annual art show last weekend.
The McKeesport Art Group was founded in 1958 by a group of local artists led by Jeff Madden. Madden was the art director for the McKeesport based G.C Murphy department store chain and a respected painter. He became well known for his detailed oil paintings of McKeesport during its heyday in the 1950s and ’60s. His paintings and prints are highly sought after and increasingly valuable.
Now beginning its sixth decade, the McKeesport Art Group continues to create and promote an interest in the arts in McKeesport and the entire Mon Valley. One of the primary purposes of the organization is to support and encourage local artists by providing a showcase for their work. To accomplish this, the group partners with local businesses to host rotating shows for individual artists and holds the annual show at “Renzie” Park.
