BV Legion earns season-opening win behind arms of Hartman, Riley

The Belle Vernon Legion baseball team kicked off its season with an 8-0 shutout victory over Carmichaels on Friday afternoon.
JJ Hartman and Keaton Riley combined to toss a four-hit shutout. Hartman, a Belle Vernon Area graduate, started the game and threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.
A Charleroi junior, Riley pitched two innings of relief, surrendering one hit and one walk while striking out a pair in the victory.
Belle Vernon Area sophomore Garrett Greco, Ringgold senior Bobby Boyer and Charleroi junior David Szersen each had a pair of hits for Belle Vernon (1-0), which collectively finished with nine hits and two errors. Carmichaels (0-1) also finished with a pair of errors.
