Child welfare officials seek Westmoreland foster families
By Deb Erdley
The Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau is making a bid to recruit additional foster families as it marks Foster Care Awareness Month.
Officials from the bureau are partnering with the SWAN Legal Services Initiative as well as 13 private providers and foster care agencies to host a foster family recruitment event from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room at Courthouse Square on Main Street in Greensburg.
Officials said they are focusing on recruiting foster families in the Jeannette, New Kensington, Monessen and Kiski Valley areas, as well as families who are able to care for children aged 9-20.
In addition to foster care experts, representatives from CASA, Westmoreland County’s Court Appointed Special Advocacy program, will be on hand to explain volunteer opportunities for adults who may want to play an active role in the lives of children but aren’t prepared to become foster parents.
