Main Street in Monongahela is getting a facelift, bit by bit, thanks to a grant program that offers building owners a chance to restore a structure’s facade with financial help.
Terry Necciai, Monongahela Main Street Program executive director, applied for a Local Share Account grant in 2015 and it was funded the following year. LSA funds are generated through gaming revenues from the Meadows Racetrack and Casino in North Strabane.
Buildings qualify if they were built as a storefront before 1965 and if they are situated on West Main, Chess or Railroad streets, between First and Fifth streets.
Qualifying projects will see one-third of the total cost reimbursed, between a project minimum of $1,500 and a maximum of $15,000 spent. The total project cost can exceed $15,000, but the maximum reimbursement is $5,000. There are 52 buildings in Monongahela that qualify for this program.
