Stafford places 4th at state meet

As he continued to show promise throughout his first and only season of high school track and field, Jelani Stafford had one lone regret: Not having competed in the sport sooner.
The California Area senior grew a strong passion for track and field this spring and ended up making his one season count, finishing as one of state’s best in the shot put.
Stafford medaled and claimed first place in the Class 2A shot put event during day two of the PIAA championships at Shippensburg University on Saturday.
A Youngstown State football recruit, Stafford broke his own school record with a throw of 55 feet, 10.25 inches, becoming the first California male athlete to medal at the state championships.
