Children who go to the laundromat with their parents know the boredom that comes with sitting and waiting for the buzz of the washers and dryers, which signals the end of a load and provides a sign that it is almost time to go home where they can play.
The leaders of The Carnegie Library of McKeesport, PBS Kids, WQED Multimedia, the Allegheny County Library Association, Libraries Without Borders and the Pennsylvania Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children are providing kids who have to sit around the McKeesport-based Olympia Coin Laundry’s waiting room a constructive activity to fill the time.
Representatives from each of the sponsoring organizations and community leaders will join children and their families at 10 a.m June 7 at The Olympia Shopping Center laundromat for the “Wash and Learn” kick-off celebration.
Created by Libraries Without Borders, Wash and Learn is a national program that allows children waiting at the laundromat to have opportunities to participate in literacy workshops and take home free books and educational resources.
