Donora is preparing to seek bids for the feasibility study of the potential Mon Valley Coal and Steel Heritage Trail.

The borough received $100,000 in grant funding — half from the Department of Community and Economic Development and half from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources — for the project.

The feasibility study is estimated to cost about $60,000. The remaining funds will go toward the creation of site plans for Palmer Park and for the Cokeburg Dam, which will be developed by landscape architects.

Dennis Martinak of D Martinak Planning and Consulting of Allenport and Thomas Rebar of Compliance Management International met with Donora council Thursday night. Martinak helped the borough write the grant applications to begin the process and said his team of five firms will likely bid on the project to do the study.
