Ringgold School Board members adopted a resolution last month to support state legislation that would correct tuition expenses paid for students who attend an outside cyber charter school when the district has its own cyber program.
Senate Bill 34 and House Bill 526 would save districts that provide a cyber program a significant amount of money that is currently going toward educating students outside Ringgold’s programs.
Ringgold is among many districts across the state dealing with the rising costs associated with students who choose independent cyber options.
Ringgold paid $1,179,342 for regular and special education tuition to cyber schools — more than $800,000 and $367,000 respectively — in the 2014-15 school year.
