Grandview Estates, a senior living facility in Elizabeth, recently expanded, adding a new memory care wing for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
“It feels like home more than anything else. It feels comfortable. It feels like you want to be here,” co-owner Jessica Popp said. “And that’s what we get from our family members and even the residents, that it’s not your typical facility. It feels more like the comforts of home.”
Popp and co-owner Lori Lasosky founded Grandview Estates in April 2017. After working together as nurses, they turned a building that was vacant for approximately a decade into their current business, which is located at is located at 1157 Scenery Drive. They house about 30 people and employ about 25.
Popp and Lasosky hosted an open house for the new memory care wing Thursday, which was opening day for the new facility. Food and live music greeted all who came for the afternoon open house.
There are already two resdient in the new wing, which is outfitted with communal rooms to eat and watch television in addition to residents’ personal spaces. The owners designed the memory care unit to be more secure, assuring the residents’ families that their loved ones will be safe. The new wing can house 18 residents, but the owners plan to double its maximum occupancy in about a year.
