“The laundromat is the last place you would expect to find a library,” Versailles Mayor Jim Fleckenstein said Friday as he stood outside Olympia Coin Laundry.
“But, I’m sure glad it’s here,” he added. “This is a unique, neat opportunity for kids who are sitting in the laundromat.”
Fleckenstein referred to a “pop-up library” and digital classroom that is part of Libraries Without Borders’ Learning Library “Wash & Learn” series.
The Wash & Learn library at the Olympia Shopping Center in Versailles is one of only two in the state, with the other in South Park. It’s part of a national program operating in eight states that gives children waiting at laundromats opportunities to participate in literacy workshops and take home free books and educational resources.
