A bill sponsored by a local legislator that aims to make health care services more available and affordable has been passed by the state Senate.
State Sen. Camera Bartolotta, R-Carroll Township, sponsored the bill that would give full practice authority to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses-Certified Nurse Practitioners (APRN-CNPs).
“This chamber has supported this bill a number of times in previous legislative sessions,” Bartolotta told her Senate colleagues before the vote, “but we’ve yet to see it cross the finish line and be signed into law.”
The bill would modernize the Professional Nursing Law to permit qualified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse-Certified Nurse Practitioners to practice independent of a physician after they fulfill a three-year, 3,600-hour collaboration agreement with a physician.
