A little over a month into his “retirement,” Charleroi fire Chief Robert Whiten Jr. is settling into his new role as the borough’s code enforcement officer.
Whiten was unanimously appointed by council in April, but did not officially start in the position until May 1.
Prior to Whiten, code enforcement was handled by Building Inspection Underwriters, which was hired in 2017. However, over the years there were several disputes about service including not having someone in the borough “full time.”
That changed when Whiten was appointed, and there is already a noticeable difference when walking down Fallowfield or McKean Avenues.
Whiten, who gave his first report this month, has written more than 250 violations and more than 60 citations in less than six weeks.
