Ringgold School Board passed a “fair budget” that includes a tax increase of 2/10ths of a mill in a 7-1 vote Wednesday.
“Our budget increase was a lot less than districts around us,” Superintendent Megan Van Fossan said. “We’re not furloughing staff and we didn’t cut any academic programs.”
School board director Gene Kennedy cast the lone dissenting vote against the 2019-20 spending plan. Kennedy was also the sole vote against the preliminary version of the budget last month.
Board member Jason Gerard was absent Wednesday.
“It was a fair budget,” Van Fossan said, explaining that the increase in spending is a result of typical increases in fixed costs such as salaries, utilities and other items.
