Betty Joyce McGowan – Monessen

Betty Joyce McGowan, 77, of Monessen, was born Dec. 18, 1941, in Monessen and passed away on June 20, 2019, after a short battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late James McGowan and daughter of the late George and Anna Sutovich Povich. She was a loving wife, mother and baba whom would do anything for her family and friends. She was Russian Orthodox by faith and had been a long-time member of St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church of Monessen. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, George (Lorraine) Povich, Marco (Becky) Povich, Thomas (Marcy) Povich, Stanley (Mae) Povich, Pete (Mary Lou) Povich and Melvin (Karen) Povich; and sisters, Jelen (Frank) Bialon, Pearl (Ralph) Weightman and Mildred Povich. Surviving are her son, James M. McGowan Sr.; daughter, Jill (Chuck) Bennett; grandsons, James M. McGowan Jr., Brian (Dana) McGowan; granddaughters, Maggie (Adam) Kissell and Madison Bennett; great-granddaughter, Molly McGowan; brother, Chuck (Claire) Povich; and sister, Dolores Ostetrico. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2019. Funeral services will be held at St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church of Monessen at noon Monday, June 24, 2019. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
