Belle Vernon Area trimmed more than $10,000 from a preliminary budget introduced last month, but Westmoreland County residents in the school district will still see a tax increase.
In an 8-1 Monday, school board directors passed a 2019-20 spending plan of $38,967,923 — an increase in expenditures of $429,719 or 1.12% — over last school year.
It includes a tax increase to the state index of 2.65 mills for Westmoreland County residents, bringing the county’s level to 86.90 mills. It provides a decrease of .26 mills for Fayette County residents, bringing its school tax millage rate to 19.89 mills.
Directors Lou Rood, Joe Grata, Dan Engstrom, Kathleen Forte, Dan Kovatch, Stacey Livengood, Joel Whiteko and Michelle Callaway-Rodriguez voted in favor of the budget, with Gloria Yuschak being the lone no vote.
The budget projects $20,008,550 in local, $18,081,175 in state and $878,198 in state revenues.
