Monessen OKs budget with no changes

After agreeing to take another look at a budget that would raise taxes last week, Monessen School Board passed the same 2019-20 spending plan during a special meeting Thursday.
In a 6-3 vote, the board approved a $16.14 million budget that will increase Monessen real estate taxes by 2.66 mills.
Roberta Bergstedt, Lee Johnson, Sharon Mauck, Kimberly Egidi, Maria Scuteri and Donna Fantauzzi voted in favor of the budget, with Cindy Pawelec, Cheryl Galilei and Mark Panicucci opposed.
During last week’s meeting, several residents told the board they were concerned about increased spending and questioned the quality of education students are receiving.
