After running into maintenance issues last week, the food truck operated by the Salvation Army Mon Valley Citadel in Monessen is temporarily off the road — but area youths will not go hungry.
The truck, an emergency disaster vehicle equipped with a full kitchen, is used to deliver freshly prepared meals to area youths up to 18 years old three days each week during the summer.
Under the program, now in its third year, Salvation Army volunteers and youth workers from the Private Industry Council prepare, pack and deliver the meals every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Cooking begins each delivery day around noon. The truck is typically loaded up and leaves the citadel around 3:30 p.m. and makes its first stop around 4 p.m.
