The Salvation Army Mon Valley Citadel in Monessen is happy to be back on the road in a new-and-improved food truck after its original vehicle was taken off the road last week because of mechanical issues.
The mobile canteen, an emergency disaster vehicle equipped with a full kitchen, had been used to deliver freshly prepared meals to area youths up to age 18 three days each week during the summer.
The truck ran into difficulty last week and could not climb the hills of the delivery route. It had been serving the region for nearly 32 years, including the last three in the Mon Valley.
A van was temporarily converted to take its place, but stops had to be altered because of the van’s capability.
