Sky high temperatures will hit the Mon Valley this weekend.
The area is under an excessive heat watch for the first time in seven years, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. The watch, which is in effect from this afternoon through Saturday night, will bring dangerous heat and humidity to the region.
An excessive heat watch marks a prolonged period of high temperatures and humidity where heat index values are expected to exceed 104. It indicates a potentially dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid 90s, but will feel around 103. The highest readings are expected between 3 and 6 p.m. today and Saturday.
Some relief is expected when a cold front moves through the region Sunday afternoon.
