Assistance is available for service members facing emergency circumstances such as extraordinary temperatures or flooding.
After a heat wave and wet weather swept through the Mon Valley last week, the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is reminding service members across the commonwealth to know that they are not alone when facing such problems.
The DMVA oversees the Military Family Relief Assistance Program, which provides financial assistance to eligible service members who have a direct and immediate financial need as a result of circumstances beyond their control.
Maj. Gen. Eric Weller, deputy adjutant general for Veterans Affairs, said extreme weather can cause a lot of unexpected problems.
The MFRAP program provides relief to service men and women who might not have anywhere to turn for help overcoming such hardships, he added.
