Allegheny County Police launched an investigation after a Monongahela officer shot a suspect early Saturday morning in South Park Township following a lengthy car chase.
Inspector Andrew Schurman said in a press release that around 2:50 a.m. Saturday, officers from the City of Monongahela Police Department stopped 29-year-old Joshua Burton.
Officers spotted his vehicle driving with no headlights on along Route 88. Initially, Burton pulled into a parking lot, but fled before any officers could make any contact, the press release stated. They chased the vehicle, but lost sight of it and “terminated their pursuit,” the release read. Before officers were able to turn around, they discovered the vehicle in the road where it had apparently spun out of control.
Officers tried to block the car by using their police vehicles, but it fled again. The driver eventually lost control on Edgewood Street in South Park Township and allegedly struck two parked cars before crashing into a house.
