Children who attend Mon Yough Community Services’ summer camp got to express their thanks Tuesday to the family that saved the camp with a $20,000 donation earlier this year.
Tracy Tolbert of McKeesport was reading the newspaper on a Saturday morning in June and told campers he saw something that “changed the course of my whole summer.”
He read the words of MYCS development director Nancy Shelton, who was pleading with Mon Valley residents to make donations to save the summer camp.
Shelton announced during McKeesport’s Good Neighbor Day celebration on a Friday in mid-June that the “Making Your Character Soar” summer camp, which runs annually from July through mid-August, was in danger of being canceled and more than $20,000 was needed to keep it operating.
