The board of Carnegie Free Library of McKeesport celebrated a ribbon cutting for its new parking lot Friday.
The board revealed during the ceremony that creating the lot, which involved demolishing a house and excavating the parcel it was on, cost more that $235,000.
The majority of the money to pay for the lot came from private donations and from grants awarded to the library through various Allegheny County-run programs. However, after work began last June, the board realized the parking lot fund was $16,000 short.
To cover that shortage, the board voted to use money from this year’s general operating budget and is now seeking donations to replace that money.
