Elizabeth Twp. ‘Century Farm’ to be recognized

A picturesque farm off a well-traveled area of Elizabeth Township will receive a prestigious state honor this week.
The Vaira farm, located at the intersection of routes 51 and 136, will be designated an official “Century Farm,” by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The Vaira family will travel to Harrisburg Thursday to attend a presentation and receive their certificate.
Created in 2004, the Century Farm program “recognizes those farms and farm families that have done so much to contribute to Pennsylvania’s heritage,” according to the state website. “The farms and farm families have greatly varied histories, yet all have the common denominator of durability and love of the land that is our heritage
