Greyhounds return young, deep squad

It’s been more than a few years since Monessen made any real noise in girls soccer.
But Bill Phillips is looking for a clean slate.
After coaching middle school soccer at Monessen for three seasons, Phillips is taking his turn as the girls varsity coach.
And even though the Greyhounds were 3-12-1 last year, including 2-10 in Sec. 2-A, Phillips is not looking back … he’s looking ahead, starting with this season.
Phillips welcomes nine returning starters in his first season at the helm. And he adds that he has a talented freshmen class of players who he thinks can push some of those returning vets.
