It’s Christmas every day at Sweets by Mrs. C
By Matt Petras
For the MV Independent
Every year, Heidi Hoffman’s mother dresses as Mrs. Claus for children in Monongahela. Her admiration for her mother’s Christmas spirit inspired a unique business idea.
“Wouldn’t it be cute to have an ice cream store and name it after Mrs. Claus?” Hoffman said. “And then use my mother’s image as the face of Mrs. Claus.”
The result, Sweets by Mrs. C, opened Aug. 7 on Monongahela’s West Main Street. It sells soft-serve ice cream in addition to flavored sodas in a perpetual Christmas-themed shop.
Hoffman, a Carroll Township resident, ran The Memory Tree, a scrapbooking store in Charleroi, for years, but later sold it to her mother, who converted it into Yarn Branch, a Monongahela yarn shop.
