As a team-bonding activity, the Belle Vernon Area girls soccer team took a trip to see the movie “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” The title is something fitting that some of the Leopards’ opponents can use to describe their meetings with BVA this fall.
The Leopards return nine starters from last year’s team that went 12-0 on their way to a Section 2-3A championship. They finished 13-4 overall, falling to WPIAL runnerup South Fayette in the opening round of the playoffs.
Tracy Lovett, a former assistant in the program under the late Paul Sasko, was hired Feb. 19 after Tom Cameron wasn’t retained.
“So far, everything is going really, really good in practice,” Lovett said. “We brought in a speed, strength and conditioning coach and a coach to work with the goalkeepers. They’ve really made an impact. On the field, I’m really happy with where the team is at. We’re still trying to see where everyone fits. It’s a new season with new ideas and all spots are opened. That mentality has really helped the competition level.”
