Monessen School District’s choice to join other area schools in partnering with Seneca Valley School District could save taxpayers as much as $100,000 this year.
Monessen Superintendent Dr. Leanne Spazak said the district hopes it will have five students choose the cyber school other over options, but the goal is to have 10 students participate.
About 50 Monessen students are currently enrolled in cyber schools, which costs the district roughly $500,000 annually. If 10% of those students choose Monessen’s option, it would save 10% of the cost.
“It’s another way to try to save money for the citizens of Monessen,” Spazak said. “The budget is a big thing, but at the same time it’s offering a great program for the kids.”
