Serra Catholic sets sights on playoff success

For four years, this season’s Serra Catholic senior class have been talking about a rather specific, modest goal. What the Eagles want to do, first and foremost, is just win a playoff game.
Sure, the Eagles would like to make a deep playoff run, and win a WPIAL championship if everything falls into place, but it’s hard for them to look too far past that first round, considering no one on the team has won a playoff game.
For five consecutive seasons, Serra Catholic has lost in the first round. Some of those teams had high expectations. Some knew they were the underdog, or at best on even footing, in that first game. All have met the same fate. Bucking that trend weighs heavy on the ten seniors on this squad.
“It’s definitely been there. That’s been a goal every year I’ve been here, to get past the first round,” said senior goalkeeper Teddy Almeter. “I hope to do it this year. We’ve been talking about it since freshman year.”
