Gladiators seeking playoff berth under new coach

There’s a changing of the guard this season at South Allegheny.
The girls soccer program is under new but familiar leadership as Andrew Dyson takes over as head coach, following a stint of four years as an assistant under Tim Smith.
Dyson, who played college soccer at Thiel and graduated in 2011, hails from the Yough Class of 2006, both places that instilled in Dyson his will to win.
“Whenever Tim was there, we had the same expectation where we were pushing to get better every season,” said Dyson.
But winning is something that didn’t happen much last season, with the Gladiators finishing below .500, fighting through injuries and missing the playoffs in a tough Section 3-2A.
“I have goals of making the playoffs this year. I don’t want to have that same expectation every year. I always want to progress and get better,” Dyson said.
