The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh announced Thursday night that it has placed the Rev. Father Robert Cedolia on administrative leave.
He has most recently been serving as priest-administrator of the parishes of Saint Clare in Clairton, Holy Spirit in West Mifflin, Saint Thomas a Becket in Jefferson Hills and Saint Elizabeth of Hungary in Pleasant Hills.
The diocese said in a prepared statement that it is responding to an accusation made through the Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program that Cedolia sexually abused a minor in the 1990s while he served as pastor of Our Lady of Joy Parish in Holiday Park.
Cedolia has been a priest in active ministry for 41 years, according to spokeswoman Ellen Mady.
“This is the first allegation that has ever been raised involving Father Cedolia,” the Diocese said, adding that Cedolia denies the charge.
