Elizabeth Borough Council voted Tuesday to hire two new part-time officers, one of whom previously worked on the force.

Casey Perrotta, 37, was sworn into office by Mayor Barry Boucher near the end of the meeting. Perrotta, a Donora native, also works for the Greene County Regional Police Department. He worked for the Elizabeth Police Department five years ago and has been an officer for eight years.

“The chief needed help, so I figured I’d take one night a week to help out and see what else he needs,” Perrotta said.

Chief Bill Sombo also asked council to consider hiring a new police academy graduate, Shawn Mooney, which was approved. Mooney will be sworn into office as soon as he is issued his police badge number by the state, Sombo said.
