Prior to the soccer season beginning, Belle Vernon Area head coach had
a heart-to-heart with Daniel Sassak. With the graduation losses the team suffered, Miele let Sassak know he needed to be the guy the Leopards relied on.
The sophomore came through in a big way Tuesday, ripping a shot from 30 yards out, tucking it in the right corner behind Ringgold keeper Jonnie McDuffie to give the Leopards a 2-1 Section 3-3A win over rival Ringgold at James Weir Stadium.
The goal was Sassak’s sixth in three games to start the season.
“That was a huge goal in that moment,” Miele said. “He has to step into that top-guy role for us. So far this season, he’s done that.”
