Clairton took a 21-0 lead over Greensburg Central Catholic into the fourth quarter Friday night. However, the Centurions were one mistake away from potentially winning a key Eastern Conference game before the night ended.
GCC (2-1, 1-1) rallied with two touchdowns but couldn’t convert two fourth-and-goal opportunities in the game’s waning moments, leaving the Bears (1-2, 1-0) with a 21-14 victory.
A late pass interference call gave Greensburg Central Catholic another chance to score, but then a mistake occurred.
“In college and in the NFL, defensive pass interference is an automatic first down,” GCC coach Bret Colbert said. “I thought I had four plays to score. When we were able to score, we were going to go for two and we were going to get it.”
