A historic B&O Railroad watch tower that stands in the heart of downtown Mc-Keesport is getting an upgrade thanks to a city council decision.
Council voted last summer to use $24,500 from the city’s 2018 Community Development Block Grant award budget to upgrade the tower, which is located in a small area known as Kelly Park. It is located along Walnut Street between its intersections with Shaw Avenue and Sixth Avenue.
On Wednesday, council awarded the contract for the Kelly Park Crossing Shanty Project to McKeesport-based Kucich Construction.
Following the meeting, Community Development Director A.J. Tedesco said the structure is safe and sound, but admitted that it appears blighted to the naked eye.
