If Jefferson Hills resident Tom Donohue has his way, the valley located at the low point of Chamberlain Road — with its slopes, streams, woodlands and wetlands — will soon be an integral educational and environmental resource for visitors.
Donohue, chairman of the Jefferson Hills Environmental Advisory Council, is looking to move forward with making that area of the Peters Creek Watershed, known as Beam Run, a conservation district.
The watershed area was identified as the highest priority for land conservation following a 2009 watershed-wide study by the Peters Creek Watershed Association, and the environmental advisory council hopes the area will see improvements and upgrades that can be utilized for both recreational and educational purposes.
One project on the table is the construction of a two-mile-long hiking trail from Chamberlain Road to Peters Creek Road.
