Jim Lewis Sr. spent his life serving the community and helping others. The evening of Jan. 7, 2018, was no different.
It was a cold and snowy night, and he and his wife, Suzan, were traveling on Route 136 toward Monongahela when they saw a disabled vehicle on the side of the road.
“Jim got out and helped a girl with a flat tire,” Suzan recalled. “He was always helping someone. That was what he did. The two most important things in his life were his family and helping others.”
That’s why it was such a shock when the husband, father and friend to many took his own life the next morning.
“He always put others first, even the night before he died,” Suzan said, adding that Jim never showed any signs of depression and always seemed happy.
“When something like this happens, you always second guess and wonder why,” she said. “Maybe talking about Jim may help someone else.”
