A Belle Vernon nonprofit that provides students with access to free weekend food has received a donation from its youngest contributor to date.
Nine-year-old Addyson Newman makes lemonade and bakes brownies with her grandmother every year for her family’s garage sale. She had an idea of how she could help the Bag Brigade at Gospel Alliance Church give students snacks and meals for their Saturdays and Sundays.
“This year she happened to say it would be a good idea to put the money toward the Bag Brigade,” her mother, Leigh Ann Newman said. “She raised $40.”
Bag Brigade coordinator Kathy Kelly said every donation is important to the group, which provides food and other items to students in need.
