Pleasant Hills and Jefferson Hills boroughs were put on a precautionary boil water advisory by Pennsylvania American Water after a massive water main break in Carrick impacted a large portion of the South Hills.
The incident occurred Friday morning on East Agnew Avenue in Carrick and resulted in flooded homes, neighboring schools being closed and people and pets being rescued from raging flood waters.
The West Jefferson Hills School District was placed under the advisory, and the school district’s public relations director Carrie Lekse said the district was providing bottled water to students and staff.
The 24-inch water main break in Carrick caused a loss in water pressure at storage tanks in the Castle Shannon and Green Tree neighborhoods. The loss of water pressure limited the water company’s ability to replenish the water tanks and system.
