For years, the Elizabeth Borough Volunteer Fire Company has tried to land a grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. That goal was accomplished this week.
The fire department learned Friday that it had been granted nearly a quarter million dollars through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters grant program. The grant application was prepared by Capt. Rich Diehl, Chief Chad Rager and Safety Officer Wayne Lewis.
“The grant process itself is very competitive,” Diehl said. “The three of us combined put in 200 hours to write this.”
Diehl said FEMA delves into every aspect of the department’s operations, from financial reports to call volumes, then the application is reviewed by a committee. It’s a competitive process.
“This is the fourth grant I’ve been able to land, and it’s my best by far,” Diehl said.
