For the past 18 years, Mc-Keesport has been the only community in Southwestern Pennsylvania to host an HIV awareness walk.
That tradition will continue Oct. 5 with the 19th annual Mon Valley HIV/AIDS Awareness Walk.
The walk is organized by the Turtle Creek-based Human Services Center Corporation’s HIV/AIDS Working Group. It raises awareness of the impact of HIV/AIDS in Allegheny County and the efforts in the area being made to combat the disease and its stigma, according to HSCC spokeswoman Abbie Godollei.
“The HIV/AIDS Working Group is grateful for the many dedicated sponsors, participants and volunteers that have made it possible to continue this event into its 19th year,” she said. “The walk aims to educate the public, connect individuals to support services for those affected by HIV/AIDS in the Mon Valley and raise funds for other HIV/AIDS education programs and events organized by the HIV/AIDS Working Group.”
