Robert E. Mauer, 82, of Monongahela, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, in Canterbury Place, Lawrenceville. Born June 11, 1937, in Lancaster, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter C. and Eleanor Schmidt Mauer. After his graduation in 1955 from Lancaster High School, Bob joined the U.S. Army where he served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He retired as a truck driver for Coastal Tank Line in Neville Island, Pa. A member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish (Transfiguration Church) in Monongahela, he was a member and past exalted ruler of the Monongahela Elks Lodge No. 422, the Monongahela Neighborhood Boys Club and past president of the Ringgold Hockey Association. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing pool, but most of all he was known around the community for donating his time for many years as Santa Claus. Surviving are his wife, Sandra (Davis) Mauer; a son, Cory Davis of Monongahela; two daughters, Carole Davis of Monongahela, and Angel and husband Lee Fine of Canonsburg; a sister, Eleanor Dougherty of Fla.; three grandchildren, Brittany Davis, Bobbi Fine and Erika Fine (Christian McKay); nine great-grandchildren, Aidyn Gilmer, Aryanna and Arabella Davis, Aubrienna Brown, Zander Hill, Zayne and Zeke Andrews and Augustine and Ophelia McKay. Preceding him in death was his brother, Walter Mauer; and three sisters, Florence Evans, Geraldine Oliver and Doris Smith. Friends will be received at the MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at which time services will begin in the funeral home. At Bob’s request interment will be private and in lieu of flowers donations are being accepted by the funeral home.
